Bangalore, Sept 12, 2017: The delay on the work on Varthur-Sarjapur highway by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) has led to frequent accidents to the commuters.

The patch of Gunjur road which is around 300-350 meters has been dug up since three years. The BBMP had said that the work would be completed by June this year but the construction is still going on.

BBMP Revenue Officer of Mahadevpura, Marathalli Sub-Division, Kemparangaih said, “The work is delayed due to some issues in the land commission department.”

The Executive Engineer, Praveen Lingaih, who is responsible for roads in Bangalore said that land owners are demanding  more money but the government is refusing to concede since the the deal was finalised three years ago.

The Public Relation Officer of BBMP, Suresh said, “There has been a dispute between the land owner and the government due to which the work has been delayed.”
The Land Commission Department has refused to give any statements.

“I have recently recovered from an accident while I was travelling by the Gunjur road. I was riding my bike when my bike slipped and I hurt my knee. I took three months to recover,” said Amardeep who lives in that area.

Raju, who sells tea on that road said, “I see almost two to three accidents each day. Sometimes it’s a major accident whereas many a times it is something like tilting of the bike.”

Another victim, Lithin, student of New Horizon College said, “It has been really difficult for us to travel to the college. I had also met with an accident last year and had undergone a treatment for my elbow.”

Anirban, a urban planner says “The major reason for delay is incomplete documentation and also incomplete work of blueprints before cracking deals.
