1 girl shot dead, another injured in school premises in Kadugodi

BANGALORE (April 1)—A young girl from Pragathi School and PU College, Kadugodi, was shot dead in her hostel room in the school premises, while her roommate was critically injured allegedly by an office boy from the school Tuesday night.

H.B Nagraj, assistant sub-inspector at Kadugodi Police Station, said a first information report was registered late Tuesday night.

According to the FIR, Gauri (name changed), 16, was resting in her room. When the warden visited room at 9:30 p.m. she was sleeping. At 10 p.m. students called the warden after they heard noises from their room. Gauri was found lying on her bed, bleeding from injury on her head, while her friend Shreeya (name changed), 16, was critically injured.

Both girls belong to Pavagada Village in Tumkur District. Gauri was announced dead as she was rushed to Narayana Multispeciality Hospital in Whitefield. Shreeya is currently in medical intensive care unit in Manipal Hospital.

Dr. Sudarshan Ballal, medical director at Manipal Hospital, said Shreeya has faced major injuries in her jaw and neck as the bullet grazed through her face.

“This ugly incident that happened last night has caused serious facial injuries to the victim. We have our ENT, plastic surgery and anesthesia team working together for the injuries. Her condition however is stable,” Ballal said.

The motive of the crime has not yet been found out.

Gauri’s father rubbished apparent claims of her having a close relation with office boy and said, “My daughter would never do anything like this.”

Mahesh, the office boy who belongs to Shimoga District and has been accused of the shooting the girls is absconding since the accident, according to sub-inspector Nagraj from Kadugodi Police Station.

Sreenath, Shreeya's father, said, “Doctors say our daughter is out of danger, but we want an enquiry to be done about how did the office boy get hold of the weapon and how did he have the courage to shoot.”

An official from Kadugodi Police Station also confirmed that there has been no arrest made so far.

Authorities of the school refused giving any statement or information about the incident.

“We are investigating how this happened and cannot say anything right now,” a spokesperson of the school.

The local area residents said that Gauri was intelligent and her name was always on the list of achievements.

Crime was registered under Sections 302, 201, 307 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
