Land acquisition central issue at K.Gollahalli Gramsabha

By SESA SEN, 10 SEPTEMBER 2015

The residents of Gollahalli village expressed dissatifaction with Ashok Kheny’s proposal to buy land at the first Gramsabha of 2015.

In the Thursday meeting with newly elected Gram Panchayat R.Muniswamy and B.T. Dayananda Reddy, a Member of Legislative Council, Bangalore, several village residents were quite heated talking about how they want the land that they would lose in the acquisition.

Several area farmers said they don’t want Ashok Kheny to acquire their land for building Nice Road, connecting Bangalore to Mysore. A few farmers shouted in unison that they would not leave their land. The farmers said that Ashok Kheny is paying less for the land belonging to lower caste people.

People were also upset about what the government is doing for the poor. A farmer said he did not want to hear about the 2015-16 village plan and insisted the officials show him what they have done so far.

The government official said he couldn’t show the farmer the plan as he is unaware of the previous plan and he is new in the position. He also said that now he’ll be going through last year’s plan and try to solve the problems accordingly.

The panchayat members also discussed issues like drinking water, sanitation and drainage.

A Revenue Department officer informed the farmers what documents are required to collect government benefits. An officer from the food department said that a BPL card has been issued, allowing people to get 40kg of rice and 40kg of ragi.

The total budget for the year 2015-16 is 13,50,000, but nothing has been planed yet, panchayat members said. The applications that they have received will be dealt with on a priority basis and a plan will be made accordingly in the next Gramsabha.
