Social reformer Ambedkar remembered

By Deepashri Varadharajan

Nearly 500 members of Dalit activist group Dalit Sagharsha Samiti marched from the Gandhi statue near Ananda Rao Circle to the Vidhana Soudha state legislature to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the death of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar. Ambedkar, a reformer and one of the founding fathers of the Indian Constitution, was born into a lower-caste family and fought all his life against untouchability and social discrimination. M.C. Narayana, DSS district convener, said the group was headed to the Vidhana Soudha to pay tribute and offer flowers to the Ambedkar statue there.
