BANGALORE (Dec. 8)—Baldwin Boys’ High School along with Baldwin Opportunity School, a school for children with special needs, observed their annual sports meet on Thursday.
It was an opportunity for that much needed occasion for integration of the kids from both the regular schools and special schools, as they all participated in the sports meet.
The sports meet stayed true to its spirit with a torch ceremony, followed by a march past, oath-taking ceremony and singing of the school song.
The event kicked off with a colorful cultural performance by the students of the second and third graders of Baldwin Boys’ High School.
The event saw participation from several hundred students from Baldwin High School and also an enthusiast group from the Baldwin Opportunity School.
Arjun Devaiah: Never lose hope
The chief guest was athlete Arjun Devaiah, also called the “Sprint King of India,” who stressed the need of sports beside academics in addressing the crowd.
He insisted upon the involvement of parents in these programs suggesting that sports events be held on holidays. He also suggested that “parents avoid comparing their children with others.”
“Never lose hope even in the face of the toughest of competitions and challenges,” Devaiah said. “Believe and have trust in yourself.”
Special ones in a special crowd
The group of special students from BOS also actively took part in the sports event along with the students of the regular school.
Shuttle relay and lemon & spoon were two of the sports events organized for them.
Athletics guru Devaiah assisted with the execution of the special kids’ sports events. He also spoke to them and offered them advice.
Devaiah handed out medals to the sports meet’s winners and runners up.
It was an opportunity for that much-needed and much-talked-about integration between the special and regular schools’ students.
