BANGALORE (Jan. 10)—The National Cadet Corps of Jain University on Tuesday began an 18-day bicycle expedition from Bangalore to Agumbe to spread awareness about the need to protect the king cobras of Agumbe.
“Agumbe has the largest population of king cobras in the world,” Cpl. Amit Jain said. “Fifteen people—12 cadets [from Jain University], a liaison officer, an associate NCC officer and a driver—are participating in the rally.”
As well as raising awareness about Agumbe’s king cobras, the cycle rally, titled “A ride for protecting the reign of the Kings,” aims to encourage young people to join the armed forces.
Going via Chikmangkur and Shimoga, the cyclists will cover a total distance of 744 kilometers, visiting places of historical importance on the way.
“We have no sponsors as such,” company Quartermaster Sgt. Abhinav Shivkumar said.
Jain University helped organize the rally to inculcate a spirit of adventure among cadets.
