A special series on corruption in India

"Power does not corrupt men; fools, however, if they get into a position of power, corrupt power."
- George Bernard Shaw

We CAN overcome

Corruption in India has spread its tentacles so far and wide that it has now become ingrained within each of us. Jumped a signal? Oh, just pay a bribe and get away with it. Facing issues at the passport office? Pay a little extra money to the office-in-charge and voila! Your passport will be in your hand. Like Aamir Khan utters in the superhit movie 3 Idiots “Rishwat dena toh khud papa ne sikhaya.” (Dad taught me to get work done by paying a bribe)

India is a nation of scofflaws

It seems like the time has finally come when Indians are tired of being cheated by people who think they are above the law. Anna Hazare’s campaign against corruption this hot summer drew people out in throngs, with them following people as if he were the Pied Piper himself. So where do we go from here? The campaign has taken a back seat, and the heat has died down. Let’s look at the situation of corruption in India today.

Corruption: Cracking the code

The alarming problem with corruption in India is that political parties do not say they are “noncorrupt,” but boast instead they are “less corrupt” than other political parties. The various scams that have come to light in the recent past just highlight this problem and the shocking attitude of the people in power.

That’s just the way it is…isn’t it?

It had barely been four hours since I had got my driver’s license. I don’t know if it was fate, bad eyesight or just insufficient practice, but my car—or rather I—had managed to drive into a police van.

The Net can put the kibosh on baksheesh

Don’t be surprised if tomorrow someone asks you for money to let you enter your own house, sleep on your own bed or even eat the food you bought with your hard-earned money!
